Gang of Four is recognized as pioneers of the post-punk movement of the late 1970s and early 80s. Their music consists of experimental, punk sounds and analyzes/critiques many facets of human society from politics to how individuals behave in certain ways. Echoing the singular importance of the bands impact on music, Rage Against the Machines Tom Morello told Rolling Stone this past July 2014 that "theres no one more influential on my guitar playing than Andy Gill." Having been named a massive influence by many artists including Bloc Party, R.E.M., The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, The Rapture, Franz Ferdinand and LCD Soundsystem, among hundreds of others, Gang of Fours legacy continues not by being frozen in a moment in time, but by constant evolution while remaining true to the original spirit of the band.

Sandwiched between Joy Divisions landmark album "Unknown Pleasures" and Led Zepellins iconic "IV," Gang of Fours debut "Entertainment!" sits at #8 on Pitchforks Top 100 of the 1970s, proclaiming it "caustic and bursting with disgust for unethical capitalism, opportunist politicians and consumer society, among other things, but its also crafted with amazing pop sensibility and is, of course, remarkably danceable." The album consists of elements of punk, funk, reggae, and dub. Earlier this year, that same album was found on Kurt Cobains handwritten list of favorite albums.

THE NEW REGIME

The modern age of music is dictating a new approach to releasing material. Gone are the days of reliance on formal singles and/or albums, and in their place waits a space of creative freedom for artists. Ilan Rubin never fit traditional molds anyway. Despite the energy and enjoyment of playing with artists like Nine Inch Nails, Angels & Airwaves, and Paramore, Rubin felt the urge to do more and was always at work creating his own music, his own sound, his own vision – The New Regime.

Beginning in 2007, he spent every spare moment writing, arranging and performing his own songs. Every instrument, every note of The New Regime is played and/or sung by him.
